John Fogg, Headquarters and Chris Wanley, Outdoors, issue news items on a regular basis by email. Here are some current extracts that may interest Network Scouts.
Where there is a will there is ** In the UK more than 60% of Voluntary Sector income is from legacies, so it is a very important source of revenue for Scout Groups. However, only one in three people in Britain have written a Will and a huge proportion of people in Britain die intestate. This means that their money is distributed by the State. It is important to encourage people to write a Will so that their money goes where they would wish. To increase awareness the Fundraising Department has produced a Legacy Leaflet with information about how to include a bequest to a Scout Group, District, County or The Scout Association, when writing a Will. It is available from the Fundraising Department and is also available in PDF form. Please email natasha.belenkin@scout.org.uk or ring 0208 433 7232.

District Secretaries - Talking Points (24/11/2002) District Secretaries receive 12 copies of Talking Points and frequently ask, "Who should receive them?" They are intended for the District Team (ADCs etc) and also the District Officers such as the Chairman and Treasurer. Copies could also be usefully sent to District Chaplains and Presidents. Talking Points may be freely photocopied. It can also be read and/or downloaded from www.scoutbase.org.uk Any Member can also subscribe to receive their own copy by email by registering with ScoutBaseUK at the same address. Webmasters note: Relevant bits of the electronic version make up the bulk of this Section of the East Sussex Network website.
ScoutCount - User Notice (24/11/2002) Following the launch of the new Programme, a problem has been discovered with the database on the CD-ROM contained in the Scouting Essentials file. The ScoutCount system contains a number of errors that may cause problems for users. A second version is currently being developed and the upgrade will be available free of charge in the spring of 2003. It is hoped that some data from the first version will be transferable, but this is not guaranteed, so users may wish to continue to use current record keeping system. The upgrade is being developed and tested with the help of volunteers to ensure that the product meets user's needs. We will notify the Movement when the update is available.
